Another Storm Approaches

Kern River Saloon plus two,
dandelions long ago turned to seed,
another storm approaching,
clay underfoot, beckoning.
Stuck,
too depressed to continue,
suicide too permanent.
Friend not hearing cries for help,
chalking them up to immature neediness,
responding with anger and resentment.
Hurt, I understand,
people who’ve never experienced
rarely recognize, and those who have
hesitate to embrace.
Winter looms,
fear already attendant,
the dandelion trembles
as her offspring
are borne away on the wind.
